Lottery funding for three Lisburn groups

Groups working with people in the Lisburn area are sharing in a major grants windfall from Big Lottery Fund’s Awards for All programme.

Success Dragon & Lion Dance Association, which promotes Chinese arts and culture in Northern Ireland, received £9,994.

The grant will be used to run multi-cultural dance performances and information stalls at the South Eastern Regional College in Lisburn as part of a programme of events later this year to encourage greater understanding and mutual respect of other cultures.

The dancers will include those from Indian, Chinese and Filipino cultures.

“I think children should have a chance to learn more about other cultures.

“They are then less likely to become racist when they grow up. That’s why I want to deliver this knowledge to them whenever they are young,” said Yuk Shan (Alan) Lui from the project.

The Young Men’s Christian Association (Lisburn) Limited, which creates opportunities for young people to reach their full potential, received £4,094.

The organisation will use the grant for a project that will work with adults with learning disabilities to improve life skills, confidence and independence.

Pound Bridge and District Community Association, which provides cultural events, community development and social activities in the Lagan Valley area, received £10,000.

They will use the grant to upgrade Pound Bridge Hall for use by the community.

Joanne McDowell, Big Lottery Fund NI Director, said: “The Big Lottery Fund’s NI Awards for All programme funds health, education, environment and community projects that help people bring about positive change in their lives, improve health and well-being, develop skills and create safer communities.
