The DUP representative, a member of the Assembly’s Environment Committee, raised the issue at a meeting of the Committee and welcomed unanimous support for his proposal to call for waste on the site to be dealt with.
He said. ‘My councillor colleagues and I have raised concerns in relation to the former Brickkiln site in Maydown Londonderry.

Hide Ad“Since the site has been closed several months ago, large volumes of waste remains on the site with major health issues arising from the rat infestation and odours.
“At today’s (Thursday, September 24)) Environment Committee I received the backing of all members to my proposal that the committee write to NIEA to demand action on this worsening situation.
“I also requested that NIEA provide a response to complaints surrounding the Newbuildings waste transfer site following the waste from existing contracts being moved there.
“NIEA must ensure that businesses are compliant with health procedures and that residents are respected.”
