The incident occurred last Tuesday afternoon next to the club’s Nelson Street base. Two portable buildings on the premises were completely destroyed, with scorch damage and cracked windows at the hall used by members. Cllr Williams said: “This boxing club is a major asset to Carrickfergus, the loss of which would leave many young people without a safe and positive environment to socialise and practice the sport. “Ultimately the reckless actions of others could have destroyed this vital service, and even endangered lives and property in the surrounding homes. “I commend John Neill and those in his team who are providing this splendid service, a service the PCSP were happy to partially fund.” Councillor Williams urged anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact the PSNI non-emergency number 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
